How NotchUp Checks Loan Rates: Methodology and Disclosure

NotchUp does not lend and has no referral partners as of October 15, 2026. Every rate row comes from the provider's own page, expires 30 days after it is checked and is never shown above 35% APR.

NotchUp does not lend. As of October 15, 2026 no lender, dealer or marketplace pays NotchUp for placement or referrals: referrals have not launched. Every rate in the NotchUp Loans tables comes from the provider’s own website, carries the date we checked it and is hidden 30 days later unless it is checked again.

This page is the methodology for those tables. NotchUp Loans covers BC, Alberta and Ontario only. Quebec is excluded.

The short answer

  1. $0

What any provider pays NotchUp for placement in our loan tables today, as of October 15, 2026.

  2. 23

Car loan providers in NotchUp’s panel, each checked by hand on its own website on October 15, 2026.

  3. 30 days

The longest a published rate stays on a NotchUp table before it is hidden until we check the provider’s page again.

  4. 35%

The APR ceiling every table row must sit under; anything above Canada’s criminal rate is never shown (Criminal Code, s. 347).

Does NotchUp get paid by lenders?

No: as of October 15, 2026, NotchUp has no paid placement, affiliate or referral agreement with any car lender, dealer or loan marketplace. No provider’s position, wording or inclusion in our tables is paid for, and nothing on these pages can get anyone approved.

NotchUp’s own business is a separate wage advance service, not a car loan, down payment loan or credit repair tool. It is not promoted in the loan tables.

Every page is written by the NotchUp Editorial Team and reviewed before publication by India Varga, Operations and Content Specialist, against each figure’s primary source. No lender, dealer or advertiser reviews or approves our content.

How is each rate row verified?

A NotchUp editor reads each provider’s own website and records only what it states, with the date; our panel of 23 car loan providers was checked October 15, 2026. We never copy rates from comparison sites or news articles, which often disagree with the lender.

How a NotchUp editor verifies a rate row
  1. Open the provider’s own page

Save the exact address of the page that states its rates or terms as the row’s source link.

  2. Record only what it states

Note the APR floor and ceiling, term, provinces served and how to apply, and leave anything unstated as “Not published”.

  3. Copy a short verbatim quote

Keep under 15 words that show the rate, or show that no rate is published.

  4. Label rates that are not car loan rates

A row with only a personal loan rate says “Personal loan rates; no auto-specific rate published”.

  5. Print the date and set an expiry

The row expires 30 days after the check, or earlier if a promotion ends sooner.

  6. Grade confidence internally

High when read word for word, medium when the page was partial or ambiguous, low when it could not be loaded.

An expired row stays in the table, so a provider does not vanish, but its rate reads “Awaiting re-verification” until it is checked again.

Market-wide ranges, such as Finder Canada’s, appear only in the text with their date, never in a provider row.

To report an error, email hello@NotchUp.app with the page address and what looks wrong. We update a row only after checking the provider’s own page. The NotchUp Loans guide lists where to complain about a lender.

How do the 35% filter and row order work?

No NotchUp table can show an APR above 35%, the criminal interest rate since January 1, 2025 (Criminal Code, s. 347). Editors never record one, and the page code removes any APR above 35% before display.

  • A published ceiling above 35% is left out, and the row is flagged for review.
  • A ceiling of exactly 35% can appear, because the criminal rate is an APR that exceeds 35%.
  • Payday loans, priced at up to $14 per $100, never appear in the APR tables.

Rows are sorted by type of provider in a fixed sequence, then by name: dealer, direct, online car retailer, loan marketplace, bank, credit union. No rate, review score or payment affects the order. Our Canada Drives vs CarsFast vs Clutch comparison uses a hand-picked set in editor order.

What do the Bank of Canada figures measure?

The Bank of Canada figures are averages of what chartered banks charged, across all credit tiers, from the Bank’s public Valet data service. The headline auto loan series, V122667805, stood at 6.66% (July 2026, Bank of Canada). The figures exclude finance companies and credit unions, and monthly series arrive two to three months late.

What would change if referrals launch?

Only the way you can choose to contact a provider would change, and no referral program exists as of October 15, 2026. Each program would be named here, with its start date, before launch. These safeguards would apply:

  • A separate consent box, unticked by default, before your details go to a named partner.
  • A note on whether the partner runs a credit check.
  • No fee to any borrower for a referral, an application or a comparison.
  • A “Sponsored” label on any paid row, with no change to unlabelled rows.
  • No referral forms for residents of Quebec.

Frequently asked questions

Is NotchUp a car lender?

No, NotchUp does not lend car loans and cannot approve or decline anyone for one. It publishes rates checked on each provider’s own page, with the date of each check. As of October 15, 2026 it has no referral partners.

Do lenders pay to appear in NotchUp’s tables?

No. As of October 15, 2026, no provider pays NotchUp for placement, and the tables are sorted by type of provider and then by name. If that changes, the program will be named here first and any paid row labelled “Sponsored”.

How current are the rates on NotchUp?

Every provider rate shows the date we checked it, and a rate more than 30 days past its check is hidden until it is checked again. Bank of Canada figures refresh daily, and each carries its reference month or date.

Will NotchUp share my information with lenders?

Not today, because NotchUp has no referral partners as of October 15, 2026. If referrals launch, your details would go to a named partner only after you tick a separate consent box, unticked by default. The form would also say whether the partner runs a credit check.
